With the positive transfer of 3 beautiful young mountain Gorillas from the Port Lympne Wild animal Park in Kent, England to their needed half way home, an African nature reserve in Gabon thanks to the brilliant work of the Gorilla charity the Aspinall Foundation.
With mountain Gorillas approaching the possibility of extinction with issues such as poaching, deforestation, war, and sickness, conservationists are overjoyed that the 3 gorillas are seeming well gaining in size as they consume the now surrounding foliage.
The population of Western gorillas carries on being wiped out in their natural habitat – gorillas are on the ‘extremely endangered list’ and will no longer be found on the planet by 2020 if the quantity of them carry on reducing at the rate they are at present.
Their cousins based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Rwanda and Uganda the mountain Gorillas are also suffering the effects of civilisations expansion and have had their numbers falling dramatically over the years reaching desperately small numbers recently.
Mountain Gorillas unlike their hardier cousins Chimpanzees do not cope with alterations to their environment, with anxiety knocking them back in a lethal way. Stressed Gorillas have a tendency to become depressed, putting them in a very open to disease which they seldom get better from. Our susceptible giant cousins require our help to ensure they do not just disappear into extinction through our lassitude.
The Young Gorillas from Kent are now housed in little housing in a protected area of the jungle where they are led about their enclosure daily to help them develop in self reliance and get used to helping themselves (when I say enclosure I mean a large area of forest that they grow in confidence in). Eventually the young Gorillas will break out of the space and when they are entirely ready let out into the wild.
The major thing just as with humans, is building the self belief within these Gorillas to ensure that they are entirely and utterly at peace within the forest so that they know how to survive without requiring the help of humans to keep them alive. At this point are you actually able to say that these Gorillas are ready to become wild and this is the fantastic job that the Aspinall Foundation are helping to carry out.
The orphan Gorillas that are helped by the charity and its partners, are mixed in with the younger Gorillas raising the quantity of Gorillas capable of being raised and eventually let out by this fantastic charity.
