Taking a look through history it is truly amazing to see the advancements that have been developed, but who would have thought education would move to the web via a learning management system? The progression from education then to education now is simply nothing less than an immense accomplishment, yet there seems to be continuous initiatives to develop new ways to further education. Technology is in a constant quest to develop innovative initiatives that ultimately strive to make every day routines efficient, and we see this constant drive even within the learning management system as new types of modules and courses are developed.
Back in the 1700’s classrooms were very minimalistic with a one room school house containing multiple age groups. A great opportunity was presented as schools began to widely develop, opening their doors for children of all color, age, social class, and gender. Students were segmented into age groups and placed in separate classrooms with their own age specific curriculum. Skipping ahead a few centuries, computers were brought into schools for the first time. They soon made their way into the curriculum and computer classes were made mandatory for students to learn basic skills like typing.
Everyone went wild when the innovative wireless internet was introduced to facilitate easier access to the world wide web. Wireless internet has become highly accessible as colleges bring access to their campuses, free wifi is showing up at our favorite local cafes, workplaces have eliminated their abundance of wires, and even residential living complexes are offering wireless internet access. High Schools are turning to the web as they provide a secured system where Students must complete and submit their assignments online and can access their new assignments for their class schedules. This new enhancement has made the Parents lives easier as they are now able to keep track of their child’s progression and performance in their classes as online report cards have been integrated as a valuable resource to ensure students are being kept accountable. Colleges are moving forward by taking education mobile and have created ways for students to earn their degree with a distant learning program via a learning management system.
Technology is moving forward continuously as it tries to seek new ways to create an even more efficient and useful means for higher education. This has resulted in new interactive courses being implemented into the curriculum with virtual instructor led webinars, advanced assessment tools to measure students’ comprehension and reaction to the material. With the different learning methods, content developers have implemented each style; visual, auditory, and kinetic, to their curriculum material to ensure the greatest amount of comprehension for their learners. The door of opportunity to further education has been made available to us via the learning management system and valuable learning tools that have been proven to be extremely valuable. To see how far we have come is truly something to be proud of and excited about as we continue to look towards the future to its promising progressions that are sure to come.
