There is no questioning the fact that English has become the default official language of the business world. The International English Language Testing System is widely accepted in nations like South Africa, Australia, Britain, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. In the US, it is accepted by over 2,000 institutions. Many professional organizations such as the WHO also accept holders of the IELTS.
Testing of the IELTS is done in a series of steps. Identifying all of these will allow you prepare on the areas which you might be less than ready for. The IELTS test does not just test your skill at writing. The IELTS also quizzes individuals on their proficiency at listening, reading and speaking english. How well you perform in each of these areas is scored on a point system that is ranged between 0 to 9. Depending on whether you are applying for the academic of general version of the IELTS, the degree of difficulty of the reading and writing module may vary accordingly.
Success at the IELTS will not only depend on your mastery of English but also on your ability to listen and pay attention to instructions. For example during the listening module, which last for 40 minutes, you will be made to listen to 30 minutes of recording. Tests will then be carried out based on what you gleaned from the recording. The writing module normally comprises of specific instructions which can make or mar you final result. Occasionally the word count required for an answer is clearly stated-i.e answer in 5 words. Going above or below that will only be counted against you.
The IELTS also pays attention to the writing skills of an individual with focus on writing and grammer construct as obvious examples.
